Inventory on protected Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest # 2

Early morning hours and a major emergence has occurred on nest #2.  When the NMB STP Volunteers are checking the nest, it is determined that there are some hatchlings still at the surface. Soon more NMB STP Volunteers are there to help.  Volunteers safely watch, making sure the hatchlings make it to the water safely. Daylight and sun may make it more difficult for the hatchlings to make it to the ocean safely More people, animals, birds and the threat of the hot sun are now in play. With the protection by the NMB STP Volunteers, the rest of the hatchlings safely make it to the ocean.

Many people on the beach have come to watch at a safe distance, many questions are answered about the endangered Sea Turtle Species.  Volunteers are happy to explain and share their knowledge and passion as to what is being done under stick guidelines and special permit and training.

Inventory on nest #2

After the specified days after the major emergence, according to federal and state guidelines the inventory is done.

The nest is carefully dug up and documentation will go into a national data base so this information can be used to help in the conservation and saving the endangered Sea Turtle species.

Two Hatchlings were found in this nest that were unable to make it out on their own. they will be put into a bucket and will be released on the beach so they can make their way to the ocean on their own.

The Hatchling will be carefully taken around so all can see while we are waiting for the inventory to be complete, in case more hatchlings are found.

The Two Hatchlings are released, and they will make their way on the sand to the ocean on their own.
