North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol 2013 season officially started on April 22nd with a Sea Turtle Stranding. Request for help came in early from Myrtle Beach. Small, juvenile Sea Turtle was found by Myrtle Beach City Employees as they raked the beach. Poor guy, very, very still.
It was a cold and windy morning, air temps in the low 50's.
It's a little juvenile Green Sea Turtle.
Yes the turtle is still alive, barely, very cold but is blinking it's eyes. So the turtle is moved from the beach for transport to SC Sea Turtle Hospital.
Taking the turtle's temperature. Look for the little red circle by base of it's neck.
Body Temperature is in the 50's. Should be in the 80's.
Hand off in McCellanville to SC Department of Natural Resources for short trip to the SC Sea Turtle Hospital

Lisa transfers to the DNR Truck to take the rest of the way to the hospital.
A huge thanks to the City of Myrtle Beach Employees for helping this little guy. They stayed with it until help arrived. Thank you Lisa for meeting me in McCellanville to transport into the Hospital.
Per SC Sea Turtle Hospital: "...It's body temp was about 58 so we are having to warm very slowly. Blood work is strange- a good hematocrit but very low blood protein level."

Such great pictures here, it's nice to see someone taking care of the turtles when we stay at the North Myrtle Beach resorts oceanfront we look out for some turtles.
