Inventory on endangered Loggerhead Sea Turtle Nest #9

From day 1 of protected nest Loggerhead nest #9

To the exciting day of inventory. The day we can see the results of the hard work of the NMB STP Volunteers.  Every day is a rewarding day as all of the NMB STP Briarcliffe and No Mans Land Volunteers as a team all make a difference in helping to save the endangered Sea Turtle Species.  Volunteers make a commitment of walking at least 1 day a week from May 1st to August 15.  Many take one more than one day and also will help out when needed.   Without these dedicated NMB STP Volunteers out rain or shine daily, there would not be a way to find and protect these nests.

Many Volunteers along with friends, family and public out walking, have come to see the inventory.  The NMB STP Volunteers shine with excitement as they share their stories and knowledge about the endangered Sea Turtle species.

This inventory will be done as quickly as possible, as high tides and possible showers could be in the near future.  We were lucky as it stopped raining just as we arrived and stopped long enough to do the inventory.

All are welcome to see an egg that was not viable, also a nice surprise as 6 live Hatchlings were found in this nest that were unable to find it out of the nest on its own.  They will be put in a bucket with sand and released all together after the inventory is done.

All are also allowed to look at any hatched shells and whole shells, also to look at the egg chamber that the eggs incubated in.

The inventory is complete, now the Hatchlings will be released all together on the beach.  We often wonder which one may make it to adulthood. We may never know this answer but can certainly hope.
