Its Sunday morning and NMB STP Volunteers are all out bright and early on this beautiful morning, all knowing how important these walks are and the impacts in the protection and future survival of the beautiful endangered Sea Turtle species. Corrina, Bre, Evan and Diane have found a Crawl and Calls are made to the NMB STP hotline and day leader Arlene. Soon Arlene and other volunteers arrive to help.
Today high tide lines have washed away any signs of a crawl coming up from the beach up to the HTL. The only signs of her crawl are visible from the soft sand above the HTL. But the NMB STP Volunteers know just what to look for.
A VERY NICE SMALL BODY PIT
PROBING IS DONE AND YES WE HAVE A NEST!
137 EGGS
AS THIS IS AN UNSAFE LOCATION ON THE BEACH, IT WAS FOUND RIGHT AT THE END OF A BUSY PUBLIC WALKWAY SO IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY MOVED TO A SAFER LOCATION, CLOSE TO THE DUNES.
ONE EGG IS TAKEN FOR DNA TESTING
DON, KIM AND CORRINA PUT THE CAGE AND POLES UP TO PROTECT
THIS NEST FROM ANYTHING THAT MAY SHARE THE BEACHES WIH US.
MANY THANKS TO ALL THE NMB STP VOLUNTEERS HELPING TO PROTECT THIS NEST AND TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS AND DAY LEADERS OUT WALKING EACH AND EVERY MORNING.
ALL SEA TURTLES ARE FEDERALLY AND STATE PROTECTED. SPECIAL GUIDLINES, TRAINING AND PERMITS ARE REQURED TO WORK WITH STRANDINGS, NESTING MOTHERS, NEST AND EGGS.
