protected loggerhead nest Inventory on Nest # 8

This endangered Sea Turtle had a hard time nesting.  A report of a nesting Sea Turtle going back into the Ocean because of people surrounding her.  Luckily the same caller called back as it was coming back up on the shore a little further down the beach.  The NMB STP Patrol Volunteers were soon there making sure she nested in peace.  while is not only illegal to shine lights on or to touch or interfere with her in any way, it also could of resulted in this whole nest being lost.  If this Sea Turtle was not able to nest on land she could of dumped her whole clutch in the water where they would not have survived.

But now on to the great inventory results of this Beautiful endangered Loggerhead nest #8.

This nest incubated for 57 days

Because of the storms and bad weather predicted for the evening the Inventory was done early in the morning.

Two live hatchlings were found in this nest that were not able to make it out on their own.  They will be released on the beach to make their way to the Ocean on their own.

All are able to see what an undeloped egg. Just about the size and color of a ping pong ball.

All are able to see the Hatchlings while the inventory is being completed.

The Hatchlings made it out to the Ocean and are on their way to start their journey of life.

119 eggs originally in this nest, 1 egg was used for DNA testing.
89.9 % hatch success rate for this nest.

Of the 118 relocated eggs
107 hatched eggs
11 unhatched
2 live Hatchlings
