Inventory on NMB Loggerhead nest #11

This Nest was relocated because it was in a very busy part of the beach, with many lights from Highrise buildings.  The cages we put around the nest to protect them had done their job.  As the foxes that share the beaches with us are able to detect the hatchlings were moving around the nest and tried to dig around the nest. All 4 sides were dug around. This was one of 2 maturing nests that the fox tried to get to the Hatchlings.  The sides were filled back in and allot more attempts from the Fox were made the protection of the cage had done its job, no hatchlings were harmed.

This nest incubated for 50 days.

The nest was inventoried by permitted NMB STP. the egg chamber is dug up to document how this nest did while it was protected.

There was 1 live hatchling that was found in the nest that was not able to find its way out of the nest

130 eggs were found in this nest, 1 was used for DNA studies.
97% hatch success rate of relocated eggs

129 relocated eggs
125 hatched eggs
4 unhatched eggs
1 live hatchling

Many thanks to all the NMB STP Volunteers out walking every morning. They are the reason the nest can be found and protected.
