BRIARCLIFFE LOGGERHEAD SEA TURTLE NEST #2

Briarcliffe Sea Turtle patrol volunteers have found a promising crawl and beautiful body
pit.  Soon more Volunteers are there to help.

The crawl will tell the Briarcliffe Volunteers some of the story of this particular Sea turtle. The Volunteers will look at the incoming crawl and outgoing crawl and body pit (nest) as this will tell them clues as to where the nest may be.

Before the Briarcliff patrol Volunteers had arrived, the ghost crabs have also found the nest.  Although Large Ghost crabs could be a problem with the predication of the eggs, but none were discovered or harmed.

Probing is carefully done to find the egg chamber, as there is a very small opening of the egg chamber.  The sea turtle will dig with just her back two flippers making the egg chamber wider at the bottom, allot like the shape of a light bulb.

Because This nest is an unsafe part of the beach it is relocated according to guidelines set for these Endangered Sea Turtle Species. 105 eggs are in this nest. 1 egg will be used for DNA Research to help in the conservation of the endangered Sea Turtle Species.

Poles and rope are put around the relocated nest to protect this nest, also signs are put up indicating this is a Protected endangered Sea Turtle Nest.
