PROTECTED ENDANGERED LOGGERHEAD NEST # 5

A great morning with the Strawberry moon in the Background.  A call into the NMB STP Hotline during the night, we have seen a Sea Turtle Nest.  Early morning walk at daybreak, the strawberry moon still in the background, a little into the walk and the big, beautiful crawl, leading up to a beautiful crawl.

The Visitors who called the Loggerhead nesting the night before were at the nest shortly after we arrived. Eager to see the process as all Sea Turtles are endangered and only trained, permitted Volunteers are able to work with and protect these endangered Sea Turtle Nest.

Looking at the crawl (tracks) will tell us much of the story as she came on shore to est. We can see the incoming and outgoing crawl.

 A beautiful body pit (nest)

The body pit is probed and yes, eggs are found, this is a fairly big nest with 159 eggs found in the egg chamber.

As this nest was in a busy part of the beach with Many lights.  Working within the Guidelines and permits, the NMB STP Volunteers will relocate this nest to a Safer part of the beach.
A cage, rope and poles are put around.

And sometimes that darn sign takes hold of a glove!!!

Protected Neat # 5. Thanks to all walking this morning and every morning making sure the nest are located so they can be protected, all making the difference in the future of the Endangered Sea Turtle Species.

All Sea Turtles, nest and strandings are federally and state protected.  Special training, guidelines and permits are required to work with nesting Sea Turtles, Nest, Hatchlings and stranded Sea Turtles.
