NMB stranding #10

Unfortunately, NMB STP Volunteers have found this deceased endangered Sea Turtle.  This was a Green Sea Turtle.  Because all Sea Turtles are endangered, documentation is gathered that will be shared in a national data base.   This information is very important to help in the survival of the sea turtle species.

This strand is not in the best shape to be able to quickly identify, but Sea Turtles have certain characteristics that help to determine this.

By looking at the unique characteristics we are able to determine this was an endangered Green Sea Turtle. There is a starburst coloration on the Scutes on the carapace, this is something the Green Sea Turtles will have.

All Sea Turtles are endangered, they are Federally and State protected.  Special guidelines, training and permits are required to work with Nesting Sea Turtles, Nest, Hatchlings and stranded Sea Turtles, alive or deceased.

If you encounter a nesting Sea Turtle, Hatchling, or stranded Sea Turtle in NMB or Briarcliffe areas please call
