NMB Nest #9

Early morning call coming into the NMB STP Hotline, about crawl and potential nest.  Soon the NMB STP Volunteers arrive, some are still walking their segments to see if anymore nest will be found. Great job to all the NMB STP, Briarcliffe, and no man's land Volunteers out every morning.  The reason these nests can be protected.  All making the difference in helping to save the Sea Turtle species.

A nice crawl and body pit.  Looks like a nest, the crawl and body pit will be studied to determine where this Sea Turtles egg chamber may be found.

A place to start is determined, Trained and permitted NMB STP Volunteers will carefully probe as not to break any eggs.

The egg chamber is found, as this nest is in a perfect spot on the beach, the eggs will be left In- Situ (left as it was laid).  The nest is protected with a cage.  Poles, rope and a sign is put in place indicating this is a protected endangered Sea Turtle Nest.

All Sea Turtles are endangered.  They are federally and state protected.  Special guidelines, training and permits are required to work with nesting Sea Turtles, Nest, Hatchlings and stranded Sea Turtles.

If you encounter a Nesting Sea Turtle, Hatchling or stranded Sea Turtle in NMB or Briarcliffe areas, please call:
