Briarcliffe has a busy morning with 2 false crawls #3 and 4

Briarcliffe STP Volunteers have a busy morning, Calls coming into Cindy before midnight and another the early morning hours of Sea Turtles that had been seen on the beach.  The dedicated Briarcliffe STP Volunteers will have to wait until it is light enough to investigate.

Probing was done, just in case there may be an egg cavity, but none were found, hopefully she will come back and nest in the near future.

This Loggerhead had crawled around the beach.

While the Crawls were being investigated and probed, they were stopped by a person telling them that a bird was hurt and in need of help.  The person telling them about this injured bird did not have a location.  Tammy offered to go out and look for this injured bird.

She walked and found this injured bird.  She has helped with birds in need of help before and knew it was a Scoter, a sea bird that should not have been on the beach.

Tammy waited there keeping people and dogs away from this scared little scoter. Birds are very high stress, and do not do well with people and animals walking up to them.

This Scoter was taken to a bird rehab facility, it was determined that this was a female scoter that was extremely underweight, she was very beat up, especially her tail feathers. This Scoter was very active, and the center was very hopeful even though it was very low body weight.

All Sea Turtles are endangered, they are federally, and state protected.  Special training, guidelines and permits are required to work with Nesting Sea Turtles, nest, hatchlings and stranded Sea Turtles.

If you encounter a Sea Turtle in NMB or Briarcliffe areas please call the NMB STP Hotline.
