Briarcliffe false crawl # 5

Briarcliffe STP Volunteers are out walking at sunrise looking for any signs of a crawl or body pit. They have found a beautiful incoming and outgoing crawl.

The Briarcliffe STP Volunteers will investigate the Crawl to see what they can discover about what this Endangered Loggerhead Sea Turtle may had done.  They will look at the direction the Sea Turtle has come in and also left going back into the Ocean.

As the Briarcliffe STP Volunteers follow the crawl they encounter what the elements have done to part of the crawl, most of it disappearing.  High winds and rain often erase and distort the signs of the crawl making it very difficult to tell what may have happened.

The Briarcliffe STP are relentless searching for any signs of more of the crawl or body pit. At the base of the dunes, they see some very faint signs. The Briarcliffe Volunteers have probed this area extensively, just to make sure she had not nested.  They did not find an egg cavity making this Briarcliffe false crawl # 5

All Sea Turtles are endangered, they are federally, and state protected. Special training, guidelines and permits are required to work with Nesting Sea Turtles, nest, hatchlings and stranded Sea Turtles.

If you encounter a stranded Sea Turtle in NMB or Briarcliffe areas, please call the NMB STP Hotline.
