May 1st marks the Endangered Sea Turtle Nesting season for much of South Carolina

 There have been spotting's of the Leatherback Sea Turtles swimming in our areas ( they are the largest of all the Sea Turtles), a sure sign the water temps are getting warmer and the nesting Loggerhead Sea Turtles will soon be nesting on our SC Beaches.

                     But what can we all do to help all of the Endangered Sea Turtle Species;

Pick up any trash you bring to the beach, even better is to pick a couple extra pieces of trash on your way off the beaches if you see any.

Please enjoy the day with the kids or just yourself, and make the sandcastles, but please make sure to knock down the sandcastles and fill in any holes you may have made.  This ensures the Nesting mothers and even Hatchling when the time comes, to safely nest and enter the oceans without falling into holes or are prevented from nesting because of the obstacles.

Stay away from any Nesting Mother coming up on the beaches to nest.  The Sea turtles natural environment is the open ocean, coming out of the water only to nest or if they are sick, hurt and stranded and in need of help.

If accidently caught by hook and line, please do not put them back into the ocean, a permitted trained volunteer will come and give this turtle the help it needs.  You will not get into trouble for accidentally hooking the Sea Turtle, but please call and get help for the stranding.

Keep lights off, shades pulled when nesting season begins if you are oceanfront.

If in NMB or on Briarcliffe areas and you see a Sea Turtle Nesting or in need of help Please call
