NMB SEA TURTLE NEST NUMBER 13 JUNE 25 th

As walkers are out walking this beautiful Saturday morning, NMB STP volunteers Judy, the Scotts, Melinda and Connie have found a beautiful crawl and a nice promising body pit (nest).  soon more NMB STP Volunteers are there to help.

THIS MOTHER STOPPED, CHECKED OUT THIS SPOT FIRST, DECIDED IT WAS NOT FOR HER AND CONTINIES TO CRAWL A LITLE FURTHER

SHE HAS FOUND THE SPOT SHE LIKES AND NEST RIGHT HERE

PROBING TO LOCATE THE NEST IS DONE, LINDA HAS DUG DOWN VERY CAREFULLY AND YES EGGS ARE FOUND.

NMB STP VOLUNTEER CORRINA AND HER GRANDCHILDREN ARE PROCESSING THE DNA EGG.
One egg with every nest is used for DNA studies and this will be used and shared to help in the conservation and future of the Sea Turtle species

AS THIS IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BEACH, HEAVY TRAFFIC AREA, THIS NEST IS RELOCATED TO A SAFER PART OF THE BEACH CLOSER TO THE DUNES.
129 EGGS, ONE EGG IS USED FOR DNA STUDIES

A HOLE IS DUG TO REPLICATE THE ORIGINAL NEST, A SMALL OPENENING AT THE TOP, GETTING WIDER TOWARDS THE BOTTOM OF THE NEST, LOOKING CLOSE TO THE SHAPE OF A LIGHTBULB

PROTECTED NEST NUMBER 13

All Sea Turtles are endangered, they are Federally, and State protected, special training and permits are required to work with nesting Sea Turtles, nest, eggs and stranded Sea Turtles.
