A call coming into the hotline in the middle of the night. There was a turtle on the beach nesting, but she had been there a while. The caller saying all quiet on the Beach at this time.
The NMB STP Volunteers are out early in the morning to protect and make sure the crawl and body pit does not get accidentally run over or walked over.
This mother made two attempts at a body pit, but either sand did not feel right or was disturbed. The third spot would be the spot for her.
The incoming and outgoing crawl is a good indication that she was on the beach a long time. The team will study these signs when deciding where the best place to start to prob and locating the egg chamber. By reading these signs the egg chamber is safely and easily found.
All Sea Turtles are endangered, they are federally, and state protected. Special training, guidelines and permits are required to work with Nesting Sea Turtles, Nest, Hatchlings and stranded Sea Turtles.
