ENDANGERED LOGGERHEAD SEA TURTLE PROTECTED NEST # 13

The NMB STP Volunteers are out early in the morning to look for any Sea Turtle crawls. They are reason we are able to locate and protected the endangered Sea Turtle Nest.

While we do try to get there as soon as we know, when we arrived a small part close to the body pit was run over by a truck.  She has also done a great job at trying to distort her nest, she had crawled right over her egg chamber.

What a beautiful long crawl leading up to a very potential body pit.

The incoming and outgoing crawl

When you look up you never know what you may see.

Eggs were found.  1 egg will be used for DNA studies.  This information will tell some of the unknown questions.  Where she nested, how many times in a nesting year, and how many years before she nests again are just a few of the answers.  This will be used to help in the future survival of the Endangered Sea Turtle Species.

This nest was laid in a very busy part of the beach with many lights so it will be relocated to a safer part of the beach.

127 eggs were found in this egg chamber

Great job to all of the NMB STP Volunteers out walking and helping every morning. Also, to the NMB City rakers, who will often call and are very careful to go around the crawl and body pit.
