NMB Proteted Endangered Sea Turtle Nest #4

Great morning for the NMB STP Volunteers.  As the NMB STP Volunteers are walking, they are alerted by the Rakers that they had seen a crawl.  The Rakers are especially careful not to rake near the Body Pit (nest)just a path preserving most of the crawl So thankful for the NMB City Rakers.

In anticipation and excitement, they check out one spot, nope not a nest so they continue. As they continue, a set of tracks in the wet sand stands out to them.  They see a beautiful crawl from way down the beach.  They rush while also looking to make sure they won't miss anything in case a second turtle nested.  They get to the crawl and yes, they identify the incoming and outgoing crawl and a beautiful body pit.  They will protect the body pit until the more Volunteers come to help. The Volunteers are happy and excited to explain to all that come by what is happening and why it so important to the survival of the Endangered Sea Turtle Species survival to protect this nest.

Probing is done and yes, the egg chamber is found.

Because the nest is in the middle of a very busy beach and many high rises, the nest will be relocated to a safer part of the beach for better chances of their survival.  149 eggs were found, 1 will be used for DNA Studies and the data will be shared nationally to help in the future survival of the Endangered Sea Turtle Species.

Once relocated to a safter part of the beach a Cage, poles and Ropes are put around the egg chamber and a sign indicating this is a protected endangered Sea Turtle nest.

The NMB STP Volunteers were very lucky to have a family from out of town come, observe and learn.  they had many questions and also very excited to learn about the Endangered Sea Turtle Species.  The memories will last for many more years as they remember this.  Will this spark the next generation of People who will also be involved in protecting the endangered Sea Turtle species?

All Sea Turtles are endangered, they are federally, and state protected.  special training, guidelines and permits are required to work with the endangered Sea Turtle Species, Nest and stranded Sea Turtles.
