Juvenile Green Sea Turtle Stranding named Daisy

In the early morning hours, a call coming into the NMB STP Hotline about a Stranded Sea Turtle with no movements.

The NMB STP quickly on their way. The thoughts were a deceased Sea Turtle.  All Sea Turtles are endangered, and it is critical to document all Sea Turtles whether they are deceased or alive.  This information will go into a national data base.  This crucial information will be used in many ways to help in the conservation of the future of these beautiful, endangered Sea Turtles.

But to the NMB STP Volunteers surprise and delight, there is movement.  SCDNR, The SC Sea Turtle Hospital and the NMB STP are making plans for transport. Time is of the essence, as this Juvenile Sea Turtle is very sick. NMB STP Permitted Volunteers are on the way, another Permitted and trained Volunteer will meet them and finish the rest of the journey to the SC Sea Turtle Hospital.

When Daisy arrived at the Sea Turtle Car Center in Charleston, he/she was heavily covered in heavy Epibiota/ algae and sand.  Ater cleaning most of the algae and everything else of his/her shell it was noted by the care center that he/ she was also recovering from old and healing predator wounds. Overall, very weak and very sick.

This beautiful Green Sea Turtles condition is guarded, but despite all odds is continually making strides in the right direction.  So thankful for the great care, and commitment from the SC Sea Turtle hospital.  His /her name is Daisy.

The latest update on Daisy is that she/ he has made it to 1st floor tanks.  So, if you are visiting the SC Aquarium, you should be able to see this beautiful Green Sea Turtles Beautiful transformation as she swims in the tanks.

All Sea Turtles are endangered, they are federally, and state protected.  Special guidelines, training and permits are required to work with the endangered Sea Turtles
