Juvenile Sea Turtle Stranding in Myrtle Beach

Live Green Sea Turtle Stranding in Myrtle Beach

You just never know when a call will come in for an Endangered Sea Turtle.

NMB STP Volunteer Tammy, got a call from the City of Myrtle Beach Parks Recreation Department.  They had picked up what they thought was a juvenal deceased Sea Turtle. But when they picked it up to make sure it didn't get washed away, to their surprise the flippers were moving.  Great job City of Myrtle beach Parks and Rec department.

Soon, more NMB STP Stranding Volunteers were on the way.  Since in Myrtle Beach it would take a little longer than normal to get there, and getting parking close was an issue.  Again, the Parks Recreations department went above and beyond Getting the NMB STP Stranding Volunteers to this Sea Turtle as quickly as possible.

The quick reaction by the Parks and Rec. department and staying to protect this Endangered Sea Turtle so it could be assessed and brought to the Sea Turtle Hospital is what will make a difference in the Survival of the Sea Turtle Species

Thanks Woody and Philip and all others that were there to help.

DNR is called immediately, they will coordinate with the Sea Turtle Hospital in Charleston as this Sea Turtle is being taken there.

The overall condition on the Sea Turtle is checked out so the Sea Turtle Hospital will have as much information as possible so they will be ready to treat this Endangered Sea Turtle the minute it arrives.

A PIT (Passive integrated transponder) scan is done, also they will look for any other signs of tags that will indicate it was previously tagged. As this will give a lot of important information about the Endangered Sea Turtle Species. This will help in future conservation efforts to help the survival of the endangered Sea Turtle species. Measurements will also be taken,

This Juvenile Green Sea Turtle is in the great care of the Sea Turtle Hospital in Charleston.  They have named this Sea Turtle Hash Brown.

All Sea Turtles are Endangered, they are federally and State protected. There is special training and permits required to work with Strandings nesting mothers, Hatchlings and nest.
