NMB Protected Loggerhead Nest # 14

The NMB STP Hotline had an early morning call about a nesting Sea Turtle. The person calling the NMB STP Hotline, stayed to make sure this Sea Turtle and nest was safe until NMB STP Volunteers could arrive. Linda soon arrived; Linda was able to make sure the rakers gave the Sea Turtle plenty of space, also checking out the body condition of the Sea turtle as she returned to the water after nesting.

A beautiful incoming and outgoing crawl.

A nice body pit

Probing was done and eggs were found. This nest was in an unsafe part of the beach due to tides and many lights from high-rises in the area. This nest is relocated to a safer part of the beach. This nest had 85 eggs; one was used for DNA studies.

This nest was very deep.

.

Volunteers are eagerly sharing information and their passion about the Endangered Sea Turtle species.

The cage is put together and will be used to put over the egg cavity to protect this nest from anything sharing the beach with us.

Then the poles and rope are put around the cage and nest

A sign is added, indicating this a protected Endangered Sea Turtle nest.

Great job NMB STP Volunteers on protected Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest #14
