Briarcliffe false crawl #

As the dedicated Briarcliffe Volunteers are out every morning at sunrise in hopes they will see a crawl or body pit of an endangered Sea Turtle.  They never know what they may find.

The Briarcliffe Volunteers know the importance of protecting the endangered Sea Turtle Species.  As time goes on there are more and more obstacles for the Endangered Sea Turtle Species to endure.  The beaches are more populated as building continues. Storms often affecting the precious beaches and dunes. More boats on the ocean, means more accidental boat interactions with the Sea Turtles.  More pollution and plastics in the ocean, where the Sea Turtles ingest plastic debris and plastic bags thinking it is food.  With each day bringing more obstacles, every protected nest is crucial.

Today The Briarcliff Volunteers have found a false crawl, (where the Loggerhead Sea Turtle came up to shore to nest but turned around going back into the ocean without nesting). Hoping that she will come back to nest soon.

All Sea Turtles are endangered, they are federally, and state protected.  Special guidelines, training and permits are required to work with nesting Sea Turtles, hatchlings, nest and stranded Sea Turtles.

If you encounter a Sea Turtle in NMB or Briarcliffe areas, please call the NMB STP Hotline.
