SUNDAY JULY 24 th, NMB STP BRIARCLIFFE NEST # 3

ITS A BUSY MORNING FOR BRIARCLIFFE VOLONTEERS, AS THEY HAVE NOT ONE BUT TWO SEA TURTLE CRAWLS TO CHECK OUT THIS MORNING.  ONE CRAWL IS DETERMINED TO BE A FALSE CRAWL.  BUT ONE CRAWL LOOKS LIKE A NEST

BY READING THE SIGNS, LOOKING AT THE INCOMING AND OUTGOING CRAWL AND THE THROWN SAND, THEY CAN BEST DETERMINE THE SPOT THIS MOTHER MAY HAVE LAID HER EGGS.

PROBING IS DONE AND THE NEST CAVITY IS EASLY FOUND.  ONE EGG IS TAKEN FROM THIS NEST FOR DNA TESTING.

AFTER NESTING THIS NESTING MOTHER SEA TURTLE  CRAWLED ABOUT 1/4 MILE BEFORE ENTERING THE OCEAN.

THIS MOTHER NESTED IN THE PERFECT SPOT,   UP CLOSE TO THE DUNES.  THIS NEST IS LEFT IN SITU (Left right where she laid this nest)
THE NEST IS PROTECTED AND MARKED.

All Sea Turtles are endangered and federally and state protected, special guidelines, training and permits are required to work with nesting Sea Turtle Mothers, nest, eggs and stranded Sea Turtles
