A very early call, still dark out, so we will use flashlights this morning. Upon getting to the beach, we are saddened to see a beautiful, sub adult Sea Turtle (not yet an adult) deceased Green Sea Turtle. Working with SCDNR we will take statistics. We will measure the Carapace, look for any abnormalities and if there are any wounds that might give us any indication of what may have contributed to its death.
Because this Sea Turtle had not been deceased for a long time, SCDNR will perform a Necropsy. This information will be entered into a national data base to help in the conservation and future of the endangered Sea Turtles.
All Sea Turtles are endangered, they are federally, and state protected. Special guideline's, training and permits are required to work with nesting Sea Turtles, nest and stranded Sea Turtles
If you encounter a nesting Sea Turtle or a stranded Sea Turtle in NMB or Briarcliffe areas, please call
